Sarka Ptakova knew that one day she would work for herself. The question was, when?

Working as a debt collector in a call centre for a few years before she entered recruitment as a Resourcer in 2015, Sarka soon rose through the ranks to become a high-billing recruiter. But she knew there was more to be had, a place that would not only increase her income but fulfil her. She knew that she was destined to call the shots in her own business and earn the salary that she deserved for all the hard work and long hours and dedication she put into her work.

“When to take that step was the biggest decision I had to face” said Sarka. So, she took a leap of faith in 2021 in the middle of the third lockdown during the Covid pandemic. “It wasn’t a decision that I took lightly. I was worried, of course, I’d be a fool to not have some concerns, but at the end of the day, I knew that I wasn’t built to be micro-managed for the rest of my life. And, the fact that I could turn my commission structure upside down so that I earned the majority of the fees rather than lining the pocket of an employer was a massive bonus! Basically, starting my own business was a no-brainer”.

Sarka did her research, as any good recruiter knows how to. “I didn’t like the idea of resigning my full time recruitment role and just jumping ship without any backup”. But, after a conversation with a Rec to Rec recruiter with whom she was working when she became unsettled in her employed role they realised together that employed status wasn’t on the cards. Her dream of setting up on her own and working for herself, wasn’t so far away after all.

“After hunting around and looking at the various franchises and investigating their offering I settled on Accord Resourcing. You see I wanted to be part of a team and part of a culture that had my back, I’ve never run a business before and Accord Resourcing has, so it was a bit of a no-brainer to be honest. Martin and his team put my mind at rest within the first conversation and I haven’t looked back, after just two months I now employ two resourcers and my placements are coming in thick and fast. I got a turn-key solution – brand and back office were all there, ready for me to flick the switch and get on with my new role. I had the connections and didn’t have to worry a bit about the business side of things”.

“One thing is for sure, without that prompt from the Rec to Rec I would still be employed, frustrated and lining the pockets of someone else. If you are thinking of setting up, don’t go it alone, speak to Accord Resourcing”.
